The SSA was very well received at the Carlson Center Spring Celebration of service yesterday. We presented a poster entitled “Creating Community and Invigorating the Undergraduate Experience in Sociology”.
We had visits from the vice provost/dean of undergraduate affairs; Ed Taylor, the director of the undergraduate scholarship office; Mona Pitre-Collins, and associate director of the undergraduate research program; and Jennifer Harris — among many others, including friends and family.
Marianne Goldin, Jonathan Wagner and Sophia Chang were proudly listed in the program for this presentation - though we have so many people to credit for SSA’s success this year.

Dear SSA’ers -
Come and help a good cause this weekend. The Tent City in Seattle needs to move to its new location and they need helping hands to help pack up and then unload the moving vans. This happens Sat 4/26 9am-3pm - give as much time as you have. You can help in Ballard or Capitol Hill. Directions are below.
(More about Tent City)
See you Saturday!
Marianne
====
The next Tent City Move will be Saturday, April 26th. People can help out at the site the camp is leaving or help set up at the site the camp is moving to. Probably the best use of volunteers will be at the site they will be leaving in Ballard. People can show up any time after 9:00 am until about 3 pm. Volunteers on move day do the same work that Tent City residents do: load bags of personal belongings, tents, tarps, wooden pallets, milk crates, etc. onto moving trucks (and then off the trucks at the new site.) So, to recap:
What: Volunteers needed to help Tent City 3 move to new site.
When: Saturday, April 26th, anytime between 9:00am - 3 pm
Where (there will be work crews at both sites):
Leaving Our Redeemers Lutheran Church (Ballard)
2400 NW 85th Street
www.ourredeemers.net
Setting up at St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral (Capitol Hill)
1245 10th Ave E.
www.saintmarks.org
Recommended:
Bring work gloves.
Not many food options nearby in Cap Hill or Ballard, so you might plan on packing a lunch.
Bus to Ballard: 48 bus picks up on the campus side of 15th Ave NE and drops off right in front of the Ballard church.
Bus to Capitol Hill: 49 bus from U-District - get off on 10th and Galer (near GAGE Academy)
Volunteers are welcome to simply show up. Talk to anyone in camp and they will direct you to the “Move Master” or person in camp supervising the move. He will assign tasks to volunteers.
If anyone has questions, they are welcome to email Heather E.
